Entries for the annual Witness Exam competition open on Tuesday 3rd August 2010 and will close on Monday 9th August 2010. The competition is a simulated civil or criminal trial. The trial is run from the opening statements, through the examination/cross-examination of witnesses to the closing addresses. It often requires competitors to think on their feet – a vital skill in advocacy. The competition takes place on the following dates:
- Round One: Thursday 12 August 2010
- Round Two: Tuesday 17 August 2010
- Quarter Finals: Thursday 19 August 2010
- Semi Finals: Tuesday 24 August 2010
- Grand Final: Thursday 26 August 2010
Competitors are given their brief two hours before the commencement of the trial. This contains written instructions from the client, as well as witness statements. Students compete as individuals, however each competitor is required to provide their own non-competitive witness.
