President's Welcome

Welcome to the official website for the Monash University Law Students’ Society. On this site you will find all of the information you need regarding the Monash LSS, including its services, committee members, event information and weekly bulletin.

The Monash LSS is one of the largest voluntary student organisations within Australia. It has a proud tradition of representing the unique needs and interests of Monash Law students, both to the law faculty and the broader legal community throughout Victoria and Australia. In 2011, the Monash LSS represented nearly 2500 members, with this figure likely to continue growing in the coming years.

Since 1964, the Monash LSS has had one objective at its forefront: to serve the ever-evolving needs of Monash Law students. This is achieved in a number of ways, including providing a wide variety of events, services and activities to support our members throughout their time at law school. Our committee is split into six distinct portfolios, including:

Administration: headed by the President, the Administration portfolio coordinates, finances, plans and oversees all LSS services and events.

Activities: headed by the VP Activities, the Activities portfolio organise the social functions of the LSS, including the Annual Law Ball- the highlight of the calendar year.

Careers: headed by the VP Careers, the Careers portfolio ensure essential services are delivered to members regarding internship and graduate opportunities, both within and external to the law, including publishing Careers specific material.

Competitions: headed by the VP Competitions, the Competitions portfolio put on a wide range of extremely popular legal competitions, enhancing participant’s practical legal and argumentative skills.

Education: headed by the VP Education, the Education portfolio run a series of Social Justice seminars, organise the Just Leadership Program, publish the Education Guide and provide Pro Bono opportunities and Equity grants for students.

Juris Doctor (JD): headed by the VP Juris Doctor, the JD portfolio has recently been included as part of the Monash LSS to incorporate the increasing population of JD students based in the city campus. The JD portfolio are in control of all JD related events and services.

Without the generous support of a wide range of partners, including law firms, community organisations and professional service firms, the LSS would not be able to function. Together with our sponsors and the Monash Faculty of Law, the LSS is able to provide these vital services, across all portfolios, to our members to ensure Monash Law students continue to be recognised as some of the best in the world. The LSS is committed to excellence across all of our portfolios.
