SJ&E 'Just Leadership' Program 2010

The Just Leadership Program is an exciting new initiative from the Monash Law Students’ Society, designed to give students with a genuine interest in social justice the chance to see how leaders from government, corporate law firms, youth and grassroots organisations implement social change in their fields.

This program will run for seven weeks during second semester, commencing from week three.

The program schedule is as follows:

  • Week 1: Introduction – What does Social Justice mean to me?
  • Week 2: Policy Submission Workshop
  • Week 3: Corporate Leadership: commitment to pro bono legal work
  • Week 4: Government: implementing legislative reform
  • Week 5: Grass Roots Panel: Current social justice initiatives - how NGO’s and CLC’s create practical change
  • Week 6: Youth Leadership: Learn how to make a difference NOW!
  • Week 7: Presentation Ceremony

The anticipated weekly commitment is participation in a 1-2 hour session, meeting with leaders from various organisations including Victorian Parliament, Maurice Blackburn, Australian Red Cross, Asylum Seeker Resource Centre and many more.

Program participants will also work on a policy submission throughout the seven weeks.

This program presents an invaluable opportunity for students to make meaningful contacts, network and learn more about a range of social justice issues.  Students will also have the ability to develop their legal research and writing skills through the policy submission component.

Successful applicants will be notified of session dates and times prior to commencement of semester two.

Applications close Thursday 1 July at 5pm.  Applications are to be submitted to justleadership@monashlss.com
