JD Moot Series

The JD Moot Series consists of one evening of moots each week for three weeks in trimester three. The Series is currently styled to enhance opportunities of participation rather than involve numerous rounds of formal competition. This helps cater for the varying availabilities of students in the diverse JD student body.

Teams are required to thoroughly research, present and persuasively argue a case based on a hypothetical fact scenario. Mooting problems are released to competing teams four days prior to the Moot and are based on either contract law, property law, criminal law or tort law; subjects undertaken during the first year of the JD. A mooting team consists of two or three people: a Senior Counsel and Junior Counsel, with the option of a third person acting as a solicitor (this person will not be presenting a case but will assist in researching and planning arguments). The Moots are judged by either a current or past Judge or a barrister.
