Activities

Overview

Let’s be real, law school will keep you B-U-S-Y. You may feel overworked, overwhelmed, and that referencing the AGLC4 is not getting faster nor is there time to read all the cases or even socialise.

That’s where my team and I come in! Your law school experience can have balance, enabling you to read your cases and enjoy cocktails, hopefully at the same time. This year my team and I (shout out to Annabel and Olivia!) will be hosting a diverse range of events, some returning and some new, to assist you to integrate with your peers, promote work-life balance and importantly, make lifelong friends!

So feel free to come up to me for a chat as I’m eager to hear your thoughts on our events. Alternatively, you can email at pg.activities@monashlss.com! The Activities team is here to help, and we want you to celebrate your accomplishments and enjoy the law school experience.

Peer Mentor Program

Peer Mentor Program

Starting law school can intimidate even our bravest; the Peer Mentor Program (‘PMP’) is here to smooth that anxious transition. Through the program, brand new students are paired with seasoned veterans to facilitate friendships and guide students in their first trimester. Each trimester, the LSS hosts a PMP event where Mentees are able to meet their Mentors and socialise with others in their cohort.

To get involved in the PMP, students should keep their eyes peeled for information posted on the Monash Postgraduate LSS Facebook page. If you miss out on the deadline for sign-ups or would like further information, contact the Peer Mentor Coordinator, Hongyi Ding, at pg.mentoring@monashlss.com.

The applications to join the program will be open during week 2-3 of each trimester.

MENTEES

A Mentee is a first-year student who will be paired with a student Mentor. The PMP is an incredible way to meet other students in your cohort as well as learn tips and tricks from your Mentor. The mentoring relationship is what you make of it. Mentors are there to assist in navigating the course, provide general advice about approaching assessments and the exam period as well as being available to chat about their experience as a JD student. In order to be eligible as a Mentee for the PMP, you must be a new, incoming student starting their first trimester of the JD.

MENTORS

A Mentor is an experienced student who has completed at least three trimesters of the JD. They must be able to commit to contacting their Mentee at least three times throughout the trimester. There is no other requirement or previous experienced needed, you may just like the chance to share your own experience in the JD and be a friendly face around Chambers.
