Community legal education is an increasingly important aspect of legal work, particularly in the community legal sector. Be part of the worldwide phenomenon of Street Law!

The Monash Street Law program provides law students with the unique opportunity to enhance legal literacy across diverse and vulnerable communities. Street Law Facilitators will first engage in an outreach process to form partnerships with schools or organisations, and then work together with their contact to design and deliver a tailored and interactive community legal education presentation. For example, Facilitators have presented on areas of law such as employment rights, cyber law and police powers.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF STREET LAW?

Monash Street Law is partnered with the Monash Law Clinics to prepare law students for the university’s exciting clinical programs. Students involved in the Street Law program are able to think about legal information in innovative and imaginative ways. Further, since Facilitators independently manage projects while under supervision, students develop initiative, ownership and teamwork which are all important skills for a legal career. Additionally, legal volunteering is highly looked upon when applying for clerkships and jobs. Have fun upskilling with like-minded, passionate individuals whilst developing important client-centric skills!
